The association would like to serve as a worldwide network for scholars and students as well as for initiatives and organizations devoted to the interdisciplinary study of Latin America, the Caribbean, the U.S.A. and\/or Canada. We seek to contribute to a de-centering of the geo-politics of knowledge by facilitating mutual recognition, discussions, and cooperation. The IAS\/EIA will also serve as an umbrella organization for other networks and associations, promoting dialogue between them\u2014across academic disciplines as well as regional or national orientations. Moreover, the association will support young scholars entering the field.<\/p>\n<p>The IAS\/EIA holds an international conference every other year, alternating with the biennial conferences of the International American Studies Association (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iasaweb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">IASA<\/a><\/strong>). The association also publishes the electronic journal <a href=\"http:\/\/interamerica.de\/\"><strong>fiar<\/strong><\/a>: Forum for Inter-American Research.
