Vor dem Hintergrund disziplinkritischer Ans\u00e4tze einer New American Studies wird nach dem Potential von Chicano\/a-Literatur und Kunst f\u00fcr eine kritische Revision traditioneller Konzepte von Nationalkultur und nationaler Identit\u00e4t gefragt. Anhand von Texten verschiedener literarischer Genres und bisher nur wenig erschlossener Medien wie &#8220;murals&#8221; und Malerei zeichnet die Untersuchung diskursive Entwicklungslinien und \u00e4sthetische Strategien der Auseinandersetzung mit den Konstrukten &#8220;Amerika&#8221; und &#8220;amerikanische Identit\u00e4t&#8221; nach. Ausgehend von zentralen Kategorien einer Chicano\/a-Identit\u00e4tspolitik &#8211; dem mestizischen K\u00f6rper, der Familie und der Gemeinschaft &#8211; wird demonstriert, wie postnationale Neuinterpretationen dieser Kategorien sowohl Stereotypisierungen durch dominante nationale Diskurse als auch ihre Essentialisierung im Kulturnationalismus dekonstruieren.
