The shift away from the US-centered interpretation of these terms towards a hemispheric perspective that includes Canada, US America and Latin America requires new conceptual approaches in order to define the Americas in times of globalization where geopolitical boundaries no longer suffice to mark a clear difference between different cultures and concepts of national identities.
