Life without Media, IV International Conference on Communication and Reality, Barcelona, 30 June – 1 July, 2011

We are pleased to announce that registration for your IV International Conference on Communication and Reality, entitled Life Without Media is now in progress. The complete Call for papers is posted in English, Spanish, and Catalan on our conference web site, http://cicr.blanquerna.url.edu . We invite you to submit individual abstracts or complete panel proposals, and to peruse further information posted there.

The conference, in accordance with the characteristics of our institution, strives for rigorous scholarship, interdisciplinary methodology, with participation from the business sector, and with a structure particularly designed to stimulate, above all, scholarly debate centered on our central topic Life Without Media. The finality of the title is to appropriate the apocalyptic discourses of many media experts and take them to their deliberately challenging extreme.

In fact, by extension, and as a hypothetical outcome of this scenario, we ask you to envisage Life Without Democracy, Life Without a Market, and Life Without Enlightenment. Responses to this thought experiment may corroborate or disprove this hypothesis, which, after all, is rooted in the assumption that if the gatekeeper role of the media professional is abolished, then the fabric and the organization of western society will be transformed in its entirety.

We look forward to hearing from you and receiving your comments at cicr@blanquerna.url.edu

Deadline for abstracts: 15 November, 2011
